The town of Mandal is the essence of southern Norwegian idyll. Danish practice, 3XN, has designed the town's new cultural center, a project which required great sensitivity to the town's special environment. Kilden Performing Arts Centre, Kristiansund, southern Norway ALA Architects with SMS Arkitekter picture : Tuomas Uusheimo Kilden - 20 Apr 2012 Kilden, a theatre and concert hall in Kristiansand, Norway, has brought together all the city's institutions of performing arts. Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra now has a concert hall accommodating 1200 attendees. Agder Theater, a regional group, is performing in a theater with a capacity of 700. The theater hall can be transformed to accommodate opera performances to house the ensemble Opera South. In addition, there is a stage for experimental theater and a multi-purpose hall with a level floor. The general idea is to establish a Cabin-concept that favours a nice landscape setting with the need of appreciating a wonderful view. Two volumes containing bedrooms and service-area are composed in order to obtain the living and dining room space as glazed pavilion in-between giving contact to the nature in all directions. They have traditionally been used for storing boats and fishing gear, but today many of them are being converted for recreational summer use. This particular boathouse is located on the outermost reaches of the Moere-coast, and it hails from the middle of the eighteenth century. Gjersrud-Stensrud Hill Towns S333 Architecture + Urbanism / 3RW Arkitekter picture from S333 Architecture + Urbanism Gjersrud-Stensrud Hill Towns Oslo - 6 Mar 2012 S333 worked in collaboration with Bergen-based architects 3RW Arkitekter and ecologist Christian Mong to transform the 390 ha site into a new residential district comprising of 6000 - 7000 new homes, services, amenities and recreational areas. Pilgrim Centre in Røldal, central Norway LETH & GORI image from architects Pilgrim Centre in Røldal - 23 Feb 2012 This Norwegian architecture competition entry creates a new building in close connection with the 13th century church. The Pilgrim Centre is a hub for experiencing Røldal’s unique history, nature and architecture. Gullesfjord Weight Control Station, Troms, Norway Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Architects photo : Nils Petter Dale Gullesfjord Weight Control Station - 10 Jan 2012 The building is situated at the key point junction between the new mainland to Lofoten connection and Vesterålen Island. There will be a significant increase in heavy load transportation to this region and the need for a truck weight- and control station was present. The project is the first realized step from a feasibility study from 2007 including a gas station, cafe/shop, bus traffic junction and tourist facilities. The area is closely connected to the existing city and will constitute a modern, adventurous urban space to be explored by citizens and visitors.
