Munich company Aqua Monaco has been selling local mineral water from the Munich gravel plain, mixers and organic soft drinks since 2012. In everything it does, the firm strives for extremely high standards of quality and actively pursues a climate-neutral policy.

So when Aqua Monaco was looking for a cooperation partner that shared its philosophy, Thonet’s topquality materials and keen awareness of sustainability, coupled with the longevity of its furniture, made it the ideal choice: the team at Aqua Monaco decided to furnish its premises with numerous Thonet classics.

Aqua Monaco’s stylish headquarters are located in the middle of Haidhausen, which is also known as the French quarter of Munich. The white-painted brick walls, old wooden doors and light-coloured wood furniture add up to a modern overall picture full of contrasts, giving the offices and communal areas a decidedly urbane atmosphere.

When it came to redesigning their premises, managing partners Florian Breimesser, Robert Graenitz and Timo Thurner chose furniture from Thonet because they realise that the two companies’ products have something in common: the potential to enhance the hospitality scene in Germany and beyond. Consequently, they deliberately opted for furniture that promotes communication. Long evenings, brief stays, spontaneous or scheduled meetings, conferences or lunch breaks – whatever the situation, Thonet brings people together in the modern office.

The beverage company’s Munich headquarters are now equipped with 22 No. 209 chairs in ash with wickerwork seats. Placed around a long, solid wood conference table, they provide the ideal setting for sociable meetings. The timeless S 43 chair by Mart Stam brings its magic to the interior with monochrome black or white frames paired with coordinated seats and backrests.

Their combined effect creates an intriguing black-and-white contrast. In an open-plan seating zone, four bentwood armchairs from the 2001 range by Christian Werner provide a cosy lounge area.

Besides being extremely comfortable, the armchairs’ premium dark fabric, luxurious upholstery and ash frames turn them into a stunning eye-catcher against the rough backdrop of the walls. Two side tables from the 1025 range by James Van Vossel add the finishing touches: they too are made of ash and complement the seating perfectly.

Thonet – future-oriented furniture design with a long tradition

The unique success story of Thonet began with the work of master carpenter Michael Thonet. Ever since he established his first workshop in Boppard on the River Rhine in 1819, the name Thonet has stood for high-quality, innovative and elegant furniture.

The breakthrough came with the iconic chair No. 14, today known the world over as the Vienna Coffee House Chair: the pioneering technique of bending solid beechwood enabled the mass production of chairs for the first time.

The second milestone in design history was the tubular steel furniture by the famous Bauhaus architects Mart Stam, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer in the 1930s. During those pioneering years, Thonet was the world’s largest producer of these tubular steel furniture designs, which are today considered timeless.

For the company today, the continuous process of innovation is the top priority, together with a focus on tradition and fine craftsmanship. Thonet’s furniture designs originate both from its collaborations with renowned national and international creatives and from the in-house Thonet Design Team.

Chief Executive Officer Brian Boyd and Creative Director Norbert Ruf manage the company from the corporate head office and production site in Frankenberg/Eder (Germany). Michael Thonet’s fifth- and sixth-generation descendants are actively involved with the company’s business as partners and sales representatives.
