Chicago Architecture – Introduction

Chicago is located in the north of the United States of America. Nicknamed the Windy City it is one of the largest cities in the US. The most famous buildings include the soaring Willis Tower (formerly known as Sears Tower), Crown Hall + IIT Buildings, the classic Modern of 860-880 Lake Shore Drive, the super-tall John Hancock Center and the Federal Center building. Well known architects offices with buildings in Chicago include Renzo Piano Building Workshop (IT), Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (USA), Zaha Hadid (UK) and Ben van Berkel (NL).
Famous 20th Century architects to build in the city include Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) – known for their skyscraper buildings.
