Design: Frank Lloyd Wright

Information provided by Martin House:

The Martin House Complex

For a period of some 22 years – from 1927 to 1949 – a critical mass of Wright-designed structures stood in and around Buffalo. This concentration of Wrightian buildings was the second largest in the nation, after that of the Chicago area.

Frank Lloyd Wright designed a unique residential complex for wealthy Buffalo businessman Darwin D. Martin and his family between 1903-1905. The most substantial and highly developed of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie houses in the Eastern United States, The Darwin D. Martin House received National Historic Landmark status in 1986. The house is considered by leading Frank Lloyd Wright scholars as one of Wright’s finest achievements of the Prairie period and, indeed, of his entire career.

The Martin House – Address

The address of the Darwin D. Martin House is 125 Jewett Parkway, Buffalo, NY. The Martin House Complex, which encompasses the main Martin House, the Barton House (118 Summit Ave.) and the pergola, conservatory and carriage house, is at the corner of Jewett Parkway and Summit Avenue, in the historic, Olmsted-designed Parkside neighborhood.

The Martin House – Status

The Darwin D. Martin House Complex has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975.
The Martin House was named a National Historic Landmark (NHL) in 1986.
