Merida Youth Factory
The building is conceived as a large canopy opened to the whole city to gather anyone who may need to shelter there. This canopy is supported by a series of ovoid plant parts holding different elements of the requested functions, which are treated as independent modules able to be used separately with whole autonomy, regulated and controlled by the direction of the Factory movement.

This building seeks to recuperate the construction values of an old existing vernacular house which was made out of dry stone, a traditional technique of the area of great tectonic value. However the distinctive attributes inherent to this construction technique (compactness, massiveness, minimum openings, obscure interiors, weight) deny the extraordinary environment where it is located: on top of a mountain, with views to 2 different valleys that are faced by the two only façades of the house.

– The main objective for the project is given by the wish of the client to facilitate the access to the house to his best friend, a handicapped friend. The approach ramp, the open and luminous spaces and the maximum use of the sights towards the mountain decide the volumetry of the design.
– The house is located in Sa Torre, in a plot of land next to the cliff. The client, a well-known English writer, proposes an extensive program to satisfy the needs of each of the members of the family. The infinite sights over the sea will be the main premise of the project. The necessity to open the house to the landscape, taking advantage of the local characteristics, entails the disintegration of the volumes, running from the massification.
