Norton Ellis Architects – About us

Architect studio based in London

Norton Ellis Architects was set up by Robert Ellis and Carol Norton in January 2008, in order to provide high quality design that delivers realistic and achievable projects, without compromising on creativity.

Norton Ellis Architects

The architecture practice aim to inspire our clients. We hope to make the process of creating and transforming spaces an enjoyable experience, sharing our vision and knowledge, whilst at the same time providing an excellent quality service.

We understand the constraints of budgets, time and location. We have experience of dealing with commercial realities and complex planning issues. We listen carefully to client’s needs and requirements to establish the brief, which leads on to the creation of a scheme, followed by the detailed design and finally the built form.

We draw our inspiration from completed projects, nature, music, art, film, products etc. In fact anything that provokes an emotional response can be used in the creation of an architectural space, whether it is for living, working, leisure or just for enjoyment. We encourage clients to explore possibilities and to consider light, texture, volume and the enclosure around them.

Architecture Experience

Our creative team brings enthusiasm and over twenty years of experience on both refurbishment and new build projects, for residential, commercial and educational developments of all sizes.

Robert Ellis trained in Ireland and London and twice obtained the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland Student of the Year award. He has extensive experience of both residential and commercial architecture. Robert was an Associate at RHWL architects until 2000, when he became a founding director of the award-winning Heat Architects.

Carol studied in London and attended the Architectural Association. Her architectural work has had a strong client side emphasis, specialising in contract management. She was a voluntary board member of SPH Housing Association and is currently a member of the RIBA Validation Panel and an examiner at the Architects Registration Board.

Smiths Farm Northolt
Outline planning permission approved for an extension to the countryside park at Northala Fields. The new area of park will be linked across Kensington Road by a foot and cycle bridge giving access to the new mound. The land transfer deal also gives permission for new housing on the Smiths Farm site, which is currently occupied by a mixture of builders yard and car repair workshops on greenbelt land.

Sky Dock Sky Dock
Sky Dock is Norton Ellis Architects entry in the RIBA London’s Forgotten Spaces Competition.

Our proposal utilises the air space above Embankment Station to provide facilities for tourists and Londoners that will engage with the river and create a new focal point for the North Bank of the Thames.

The proposal does not interfere with the maze of underground train lines and tunnels beneath Embankment Station. It is supported on Arthropod limbs inspired by arachnids and water boatmen, who carry their load delicately on multi jointed legs.

The Sky Dock principle could be replicated on many urban sites in numerous cities where the density of existing buildings requires a minimal intervention at ground level.

“After just a few weeks listed on e-architect we were contacted by a new client for a residential refurbishment.

The project suits us perfectly and I was amazed how the website created a new project so soon for us.

I’m delighted that we signed up with e-architect, which we should have done sooner.” Robert Ellis, Norton Ellis Architects
