“The Versailles that I have been dreaming up is a place that empowers everyone. It invites visitors to take control of the authorship of their experience instead of simply consuming and being dazzled by the grandeur. It asks them to exercise their senses, to embrace the unexpected, to drift through the gardens, and to feel the landscape take shape through their movement.”

– Olafur Eliasson

The whole complex is a modernistic tour de force, built in reinforced concrete. Although the curved, central, stone clad façade draws it inspiration from classical architecture with pillars and cornices’, the tall openings with the entrance doors which continues as window makes the interior feel light and spacious; the side wings are lower and in the style of the time, plain with large steel framed windows. The overall form is inspired by and literally looks like a locomotive from the 30’ties.
