The Flanders Architecture Institute is pleased to invite you for the official opening of the exhibition Shopping Towns Europe on Tuesday 25 April at deSingel (Antwerp – BE).

Curator Janina Gosseye (University of Queensland) will give a presentation about ‘Milton Keynes and Shopping Towns Europe’, afterwards she will go in debate with Christopher Woodward (architect Shopping Centre, Milton Keynes/ UK) and Tom Avermaete (TUDelft).

Shopping Towns Europe is the second edition of the Architecture Cabinet, a fast switching exhibition format that allows the Flanders Architecture Institute to address topical research and design. The exhibition Shopping Towns Europe explores the introduction and dissemination of the regional shopping centre in Europe between 1945 and 1975.

The exhibition is curated by Dr. Janina Gosseye (University of Queensland) and Prof. Tom Avermaete (TUDelft) and draws on findings from the eponymous book Shopping Towns Europe.

We are looking forward to welcome you during the vernissage on 25 April at 8pm at deSingel International Arts Campus. After the official opening we invite you for a drink and a visit to the exhibition.

The Flanders Architecture Institute announces the exhibition ‘BWMSTR label. The act of building’ on Tuesday 18 April at deSingel International Arts Campus (Antwerp – BE).

Curators Laurens Bekemans and Ken De Cooman (BC architects & studies) will give a brief presentation of their project ‘Bioklas’, afterwards you can visit the exhibition.

The young Brussels-based office BC architects & studies wants to redefine the position of the architect in relation to building communities in order to create a new building process. In the exhibition they show a contemporary act of building for the Commune of Edegem in Antwerp: a “Bioklas” for local pupils.

In 2015 BC architects & studies received the Bouwmeesterlabel (BWMSTR label) from the Flemish Government Architect for its research ‘Towards a new system of building’.

The invitation-only vernissage is on 18 April at 8pm at deSingel International Arts Campus.
