Weiser Hall Expansion
The transformation of a landmark building on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor is being celebrated today. The renovation and expansion of Weiser Hall repurposes the mid-century ten-storey tower to create a dynamic learning environment for interdisciplinary study and exchange.

Directed to create “a sustainable retreat that reflects the timeless beauty and simple comforts of the area,” the architects responded by raising the primary living space above the dense surrounding woods in order to gain light, air and views of Glen Lake and Lake Michigan beyond. The central idea is to sandwich a 1400 sqft three-story plywood box between two metal-clad walls: this plywood box is then suspended a full story above ground level.

Michigan Architecture Competition – 22 Mar 2013
Two Islands, a team of architects and designers based in London, have won the $25,000 grand prize in the inaugural Flat Lot Competition to design and build a temporary summer pavilion on Flint’s central downtown parking lot. The project opens June 14 for Flint Art Walk and will remain on the site until fall.

Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) is pleased to announce that the redesign of the museum and its grounds by Rice+Lipka Architects and James Corner Field Operations, has been selected as the 2013 winner of The Architectural Review Future Projects Award for the category of “Old & New” and honored with a special mention in the Architizer A+ Awards for the “Architecture +Urban Transformation” category.

Latest Building at Michigan State University – 14 Nov 2012
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Zaha Hadid, the 46,000 sqft Broad Art Museum at MSU features a striking façade of pleated stainless steel and glass, distinguishing the building from MSU’s traditional Collegiate Gothic north campus. The museum will present contemporary art within a historical context through its study collection of more than 7,500 objects, ranging from the Greek and Roman periods to modern art. The building features galleries for special exhibitions, modern and contemporary art, new media, photography and works on paper.

Arcus Center Michigan – 13 Sep 2012 – by Chicago architects
New campus building to house the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership. The building, which is targeting LEED Gold certification, will be the “world’s first purpose-built structure for social justice leadership development”: a study, meeting, and event space where students, faculty, visiting scholars, social justice leaders, and members of the public will come together to engage in conversation and activities aimed at creating a more just world.
