Buildings in Russia

We’ve selected what we feel are the key examples of Russian Buildings. We aim to include the most interesting and best designed Russian buildings.

We cover completed buildings, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and building competitions across Russia. The focus is on contemporary Russian buildings but information on traditional buildings in Russia is also welcome.

We have 3 pages of Russian Architecture selections with links to many individual project pages.

Barvikha Village House
Three buildings are situated on the plot in one line. The main house is a two-storied building with a basement floor. It is faced with the light glass blocks. The massy wooden entrance porch turns into a wardrobe inside the house. The main facade is almost solid stained- glass window, covered with white glass lamellae. The back façade is completely open, with stone-faced fireplace in the middle.

Dance Palace St Petersburg
The architects’ design for the Dance Palace presents an open and inviting theatre building with provision for 1300 guests (large auditorium 1000, small auditorium 300). Programmatic considerations focus on the spacious circulation of the public foyer and the transparent relationship to the surrounding public square and the city. Integration with the existing neighbouring buildings is achieved by both the scale of the building – which in elevation follows and respects St. Petersburg’s typical 28m roofline – and the transformative transparency which is introduced by a facade system of triangular cladding panels.
