14 Jul 2010 Manolo Blahnik Moscow Store Manolo Blahnik – Tretiakov Plaza, Nikolsaya Street, Moscow Design: Data Nature Associates (DNA) Manolo introduces contrast with his new store in Moscow. The romantic yet rustic Dacha cottage architecture is revisited here through the ebonized vertical wood clad interiors. This texture is complemented by the white delicateness of lace captured in the laser cut Corian panels enclosing the 15m runway-like entrance. Manolo Blahnik Store Moscow photos © Data Nature Associates The shop is fantastically located at the main entrance of the newly refurbished Tretiakov Plaza. The resultant shop-front glazing on three out of four sides posed an interesting design challenge for the preferably private shoe emporium. In Russian, lace or kruzhevo means ‘to encircle’, a process, which initiated the design response to this location in the form of two encompassing boxes, one within the other. The outer box embodies the traditional Dacha element in its vertical wood screens separating the window displays from discrete seating chambers; whilst the inside box replicates the intimacy of lace in its Corian Panels defining the main display area and circulation zone. The gilded leaf motifs on the legs of the furniture and the Corian floral lace further enhance the nostalgic theme of the Dacha. The shoes whimsically hang on the vertical timber screens as if climbing the soaring heights of the pine forests.
