Lorentz, designed by Neutelings Riedijk, is a new multifunctional building of over 55.000 sqm that is composed of three light-coloured towers of different heights that stand on top of a dark-coloured plinth building.

The two apartment towers bordering the Station Square are 47 and 53 meters high, while the office tower at the Schuttersveld reaches 70 meters. The towers are analogue yet different in height, colour, and orientation. The use of indentation by Neutelings Riedijk Architects in the façade creates the illusion of several small towers forming the larger towers, which enhances the slenderness and verticality of the project.

The top of each tower is embellished with a decorative theme. The four‐layered plinth contains stores, restaurants, and hotels on the ground floor at the side of the Station Square, and offices and housing on the other side. In the basement there will be a large public bicycle shed, while the heart of the plinth contains an underground car park with 200 spaces. The roof of the plinth consists of green roofs, terraces, and vegetation.

Lorentz is part of the larger redevelopment of the area around the Leiden Central Station. The area’s transformation will create an attractive urban space in which the historic inner city centre is reconnected with the Central Station, introducing a worthy entrance into the city of Leiden.

Lorentz will be developed in two stages: the two apartment towers at Station Square will be the first to be built while the plinth with the office tower at Schuttersveld will be realized in a second phase.
