RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2003
This year the RIAI celebrates the fourteenth year of Irish Architecture
Awards, which travels to approximately twenty venues around Ireland and
to London. The object of the Irish Architecture Awards is to communicate
the range, variety and quality of the architect's work in any one year.
The importance of the Irish Architecture Awards is that immediate recognition
if given to good architecture in the year of its completion.
In response to the range and quality of the Irish Architecture Awards
in recent years, the RIAI has decided to make Eight Special Awards from
the overall Awards in the following categories.
Best Building in the Landscape
Best Public Building
Best Commercial Building
Best Conservation Project - Sponsored by the Heritage Council, Ireland
Best Housing Project
Best Contribution to Urban Design
Best Accessible Project - Sponsored by the OPW
Most Sustainable Building Project - Sponsored by the Irish Department

on a regional basis in three categories: category 1: under EUR300,000;
category 2: between EUR300,000 and EUR3,000,000; category 3: over EUR3,000,000.

were submitted, and from them 23 projects were selected for award, and
a further 28 were selected for exhibition. An assessor from a particular
region does not participate in the assessment of entries from that region.
The Irish Architecture Awards form a unique annual record of the quality
and diversity of architecture in 2003, both at home and abroad. The RIAI
thanks Roadstone, sponsor of the awards, whose support enables this exhibition
and accompanying
publications to travel throughout Ireland and abroad, celebrating Irish
architecture.
