Populous receives the Honorable Mention at The Plan Award 2021 for the Office&Business category
Venice, October 2021 – The Carolina Panthers Headquarters and Training Facilities in Rock Hill (South Carolina, United States) has been awarded the Honorable Mention of “The Plan Award 2021”, a renowned international architecture award, for the Office & Business category.
Chosen by an international jury of 10 members, the project was selected from a short list of 35 applications from all over the world.
“We are delighted to receive this recognition that rewards the work of our international team. The Carolina Panthers Training Facility is a highly technological, sustainable and multifunctional facility. And it was designed to be the headquarters of the team, but also will deliver the ultimate work, live and play environment, serving as a destination for unparalleled entertainment, sport, dining, shopping, working and leisure activities”, says Silvia Prandelli, head of the Milan offices of Populous, who intervened to collect the award during the awards ceremony that took place in the context of the International Forum of Architecture Perspective Europe 2021.

Built on a 200 acre site, the Carolina Panthers Headquarters and Training will include: the new team offices, an indoor gym, an outdoor training ground (which can also accommodate high school football teams and other sports), a covered facility, concerts and events, and a state-of-the-art sports medicine and orthopedics center. Its geometric and rigorous design draws inspiration from the landscape of stone quarries characteristic of South Carolina and the city of Rock Hill. The project will be completed in 2023.
Organized annually since 2015, with more than 1400 candidates in total, The Plan Award, selects excellence in architecture, design and urban planning to promote the knowledge and quality of work of designers, academics and students, expanding the debate on the most current issues in the field of design. Divided into 20 categories, it is a showcase for major projects carried out and future.
The honorable mention to the Carolina Panthers Training Facilities, recognizes a project that wants to bring value to the territory, create flexible spaces, open to possible changes, and capable of raising the quality of sports activities. This year’s edition of the Prize saw the addition of two new competitions: Architects of Tomorrow Special Contest and the Real Estate Special Contest. The latter, born with the spirit of supporting the value of architectural quality and sustainability of real estate investments, is designed in partnership with the independent Institute of Studies and Research Scenari Immobiliari. An opportunity to talk about technological innovation and social development of the sector, opening a debate on very current issues.
