TateHindle’s plans for 165 homes at Countryside’s Great Kneighton Cambridge development gain approval.

Countryside has gained planning approval from Cambridge City Council to develop an additional 165 homes at Great Kneighton in Cambridge. Great Kneighton forms an attractive part of the Cambridge Southern Fringe urban extension, integrating existing and new residential areas with the surrounding countryside and forming strong links with the city.

School Square Residential Development

School Square comprises of 165 dwellings: 66 apartments and 99 houses, 40 percent of which will be affordable. A children’s play area, together with integrated soft and hard landscaping and water features, provides a welcoming entrance to School Square. Four and five storey apartment blocks align Lime Avenue, designed to maximise dual aspect from living and dining areas while creating cross ventilation and providing views.

The streets within the development are designed to embrace the use of shared car, cycle and pedestrian routes to create a relaxed environment. The building interiors have been innovatively designed with modern lifestyles in mind and include large open plan living/dining areas, integrated garages with designated cycle storage and adaptable layouts to accommodate the changing needs of family life.

TateHindle’s design also carefully incorporates the existing landscape, which includes the plantation and hedgerow to the north and west of the site. This, coupled with the new landscaping interventions, will encourage and sustain the local wildlife while complementing the houses and apartment blocks to create an integrated approach to the design of this new community.

Andrew Tate, Director of TateHindle, said: “We are delighted that our designs have been approved and we are looking forward to continuing our work with Countryside. Following the success of Long Road, Clay Farm (now known as Aura, Great Kneighton), which was awarded ‘Project Winner’ at the 2013 Housing Design Awards, ‘School Square’ has now been shortlisted for the Housing Design Awards 2015.”
