Royal Birmingham Conservatoire by FCBS wins a RIBA 2018 Architecture Award

Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is one of seven West Midlands buildings to win RIBA West Midlands Awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects.

RIBA West Midlands Awards Shortlist 2018

Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is one of eleven buildings shortlisted for Royal Institute of British Architects West Midlands Awards 2018.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Tom’s Kitchen, The Mailbox, Birmingham on Tuesday 22 May.

Bedales School is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the South Downs National Park in the village of Steep near Petersfield. Constructed around a substantial and beautiful oak tree within a new court and central lawn the new Art and Design building has a strong sense of place.

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, (FCBS) has won approval for the transformation of the former Vaux Brewery in Sunderland. FCBS submitted plans back in January 2016 for a mixed use building for the 5.5ha former Vaux Brewery site in Sunderland, a site that has remained empty since the closure of the Brewery in 1999, report the architects.

In an extraordinary feat of ingenuity, Bath Abbey in partnership with Local Authority BANES, are looking to use the 40 degree C water in the Great Roman Drain which currently flows into the nearby River Avon to heat the Abbey and a number of other buildings.

The campus is part of a £250m higher education project to provide 70,000 sqm of central teaching, faculty and social learning accommodation across three linked sites in the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast city centre.

An outstanding group of buildings in Shropshire has won development funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for the regeneration of a former flax mill and maltings. FCBStudios have been acting as strategic advisors and architects to English Heritage and Shropshire Council since 2003 and have advised them through all stages of the project to date.

The Hive which will open in July is the UK’s first purpose-built joint-use library serving the University of Worcester and the county that incorporates the county archive, a local history centre, accommodation for the County Archaeologist’s team and a ‘one stop shop’ for the local authority.

The Prince’s Regeneration Trust has appointed Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios for the restoration and regeneration of Middleport Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent. The Prince’s Regeneration Trust were delighted to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to Middleport The Prince’s Regeneration Trust acquired the site in June 2011 to save the pottery from closure and to ensure the historically important and impressive Grade II* listed buildings were not abandoned.

The Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care opened its doors on the 23rd July to its first babies. The Royal United Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), in Bath, has been transferred from its existing small, cramped facilities into its pioneering new home.

Restrained brick rectilinear blocks along the main road with an unusual north-south low-rise terrace running perpendicular beyond to further blocks in different styles. The bricks are cream-coloured and their efflorescence suggests they are reclaimed; huge timber beams are used where balconies exist in the northern blocks.
