São Paulo, 2022 – A country house in the city with the idea of uniting a big family. Located in Araraquara, a city in the interior of São Paulo state in Brazil, the FG Residence, with architecture by Reinach Mendonça Arquitetos, has a dining table with 18 seats, indicating the volume of people that surround the place, having been designed for a family that spends seasons in his hometown.
To enhance this energy, many social, integration and leisure spaces were developed in the residence. The living and dining rooms join the barbecue area and together embrace the garden and the balconies. Except for the suite, all rooms face the pool. Forming an “L”, the shape of the plant is evidenced by the view of the house’s garden.
Reinforced concrete was the strong and defining element of the project. Bringing the integration of social environments, the glazed sliding doors are free from the structural pillars and surround the spaces.
Inside and outside, throughout the ground floor of the house, the São Tomé stone floor – protected by resin – makes the environments more united. To cover the masonry of the upper block, a kind of metallic wainscoting was used: the aluzinc panel (aluminum and zinc alloy), which is also suitable for internal areas and ceilings.
The biggest challenge in leisure home designs is dimensioning the size of the rooms so that they end up being isolated. “Our role is to organize the environments in a way that meets the measure of the dream, without being oversized and, consequently, underused”, says Maurício Mendonça, partner at RMAA and architect responsible for the project.
The internal circulation of the FG Residence is a real walk. In its initial conception, the family’s conviviality inside the house is what guided the architects in carrying out the project. For this, ramps were designed instead of stairs.
This differential makes the route of spaces lighter and avoids having to pay attention to the steps – in the case of stairs. In addition to connecting the floors, the visual connection of the ramp shows an elevation of the entire São Tomé stone floor – a material that pleased the owners, who can, therefore, walk barefoot and without worrying about slipping.
The bathroom, very large and shared by the couple, received a small private garden – a more reserved space during so many integrative environments. The ramps lead to the office – facing the street – and, further up, to the hall of the rooms. With a ceiling height of 5.85 m, the freijó wood ceiling is wavy, providing more softness and acoustic comfort to the environments.
The 30cm gap between the wall and the slab allows for natural lighting that floods the space with light. At the main entrance to the house, the volume of metal walls of the office cantilever over the garden, in a strong and attractive composition to signal the large double portal of its entrance.
