Milan Architecture News
We've selected what we feel are the key examples of Milan Buildings, Lombardy, Italy. We aim to include projects that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both.
We cover completed Milan buildings, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across Lombardy. The focus is on contemporary buildings but information on traditional buildings is also welcome.

La Serenissima Milan - 7 Jan 2013
When this building was built, it was considered to be modern and technologically advanced, even experimental. Today however, many of its undeniably attractive aspects have become outdated with regards to current standards of building construction. For this reason the new owner, aware of its quality and evocative presence, decided to bring in architects to redesign the complex.

Arcade Store Milan
Design: Antonino Cardillo

Arcade Store Milan - 15 Nov 2012
The store appears to the visitor almost as an enchanted palace set in a rationalist building. As in the royal stable of Meknes or the mosque of Cordoba, a dense succession of parallel arches define a perspective. The arch, primary icon of architecture, archetype of construction and protection, and symbol of Italy throughout history, in its airy, slender variant, codified by 14th century Italian painting and often cited by De Chirico, rediscovers in this work its double syntactic value of connection and separation of parts.

Park Associati

Building in Azzate - 9 May 2012
The site for this scheme lies in an open landscape that is visible from a local countryside environmental route and has a strong relationship with a hilly wooded area behind it. The new Azzate housing development on via Piave has been carefully studied in terms of form and volume to create the best possible views, using geometries and perspective axes that enable it to be successfully integrated into its green surroundings.

"The idea was to make two worlds, one hovering over the other, with the space of the city flowing between. We took the public space of the through the building bringing with it the stone floor of Milan. This opens the university to the life of the city. The building feels like a city in miniature."
