Alan Dunlop told e-architect today:
“I’m sorting out a time now to go again to China. I’ve been invited by the Mayor to Guangxi, near Vietnam and Liuzhou to visit the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee and also the Liuzhou Urban Planning Bureau. In China, there is a “Guanxi” which means relationship or bond. Very important when working with Chinese clients and something I’m looking to develop. The Chinese client will consider Guanxi in any relevant relationships and projects, so the Shenzhen Institute had the advantage, still we came very close and it was a very positive experience working with JTP and Gillespies”.

The coastal region of Guangdong Province is of outstanding natural beauty which covers an area of 150 hectares and includes the Kuanyinshan Mountain, Mirs Bay with views toward Tung Ping Chau and Hong Kong. The project is intended to create an international tourist destination and world ecological seaside resort. The 120 km coastline of Dapeng has more than 20 underdeveloped beaches and is considered as the focal point of Shenzhen future and strategic resources.

Development will be done according to the terrain and ecological conditions of the area and priority will be given to the protection and preservation of the development of Dapeng and Nan-ao. The aim is to establish a major conservation for ecological and biological resources and a strategic center for emerging industries and demonstration area for marine, economic and scientific development in China.

This shortlisting follows another major project that JTP China, Alan Dunlop Architects and Gillespies have worked in partnership and further reinforces their growing involvement and reputation in mainland China. JTP partner Alan Stewart says “Our practice has over 20 years’ experience and we have worked with some of China’s most prestigious companies and cities. We believe this partnership is uniquely qualified to deliver an outstanding project” Professor Alan Dunlop adds “This is an internationally significant project and it is a privilege to be working again with such a talented and committed team and ambitious client”.

It is intended that Dunlop will travel again to Shanghai early in 2013 to work with Alan Stewart and his team and both will take up an invitation to also visit the General Office of Planning, Construction and Administration Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Guangxi Province in Southwest China.
