Cascade House
This 352 sqm Toronto residence sits amongst the old growth trees and traditional houses of the Forest Hill community. Perched on a gently sloping site, the house is a marriage of environmentally responsible building strategies and elegant architectural composition. The design is shaped around the concept of making visible the architecture as interface between habitation and landscape.

Set in a private garden, the pavilion design was inspired by Eastern philosophy of harmony with nature. It is used for sitting and dining, as well as workshops, concerts, and other activities of a local Artist Cooperative.
The layering of its lattice-like elements create a complex relationship between inside and outside, producing subtle and shifting glimpses of the garden beyond.

Our own human body reveals that beauty or health is symmetrical, balanced, and ordered. The smallest intervention project is a spatial experimentation of these values, converting a typical clinic room of an insignificant footprint into one that transcends its physical boundary and inspires a deeper sense of well-being.
