The architects and landscape designers approached this building within the conceptual framework of an 18th century English Garden. The concept was to bring the visitor to the romantic natural setting and to confront him with emotionally charged dramatic ‘events’.
Deurne is the second largest district of the municipality of Antwerp, Belgium.

This Antwerp architecture firm is an independent, multi-disciplinary group of landscape architects, engineers, urban planners, architects, and experts in environmental planning based in Antwerp, Belgium. From a small office of three it evolved over the years into a large enterprise with more than 50 experts, working both for the public sector and the private sector.

In Flemish the word ”OMGEVING” stands for “surroundings” and it stresses the importance of the space around us. It includes the immediate space surrounding oneself, one’s home, one’s neighbourhood, region, and even country.
The designs of this Belgian architects studio are thus consistently trying to explore this overlap of different scales in space, investigating the possibilities for a dialogue between them on cultural, social and environmental levels. Therefore, every project is always perceived as an opportunity to conduct this research, each time bringing not just a singular design but a complete and cohesive strategy for the given context.

OMGEVING zoekt in elk stedenbouwkundig, landschappelijk of architecturaal project naast de ruimtelijke, ook de maatschappelijke meerwaarde en laat dit engagement doorsijpelen in zowel onderzoek, ontwerp als uitvoering. De menselijke schaal van de projecten wordt door het ontwerpbureau doorgezet in het principe van coöperatieve samenwerkingen. Zowel inhoudelijk als processmatig is collectiviteit een kernbegrip voor OMGEVING. Zorgvuldig samengestelde ontwerpteams per project vormen een netwerk van strategische allianties waarbij disciplines en werkvelden zowel intern als extern op maat zijn samengebracht.

SHORTLIST JO CREPAIN AWARD 2017
OMGEVING is, samen met drie andere ontwerpbureaus, geselecteerd voor de shortlist van de ‘Jo Crepain Award’ in de categorie ‘Innovatief Architectenbureau’. Onze kruisbestuiving van architectuur, stedenbouw en landschap in het ontwerpprocess, onze antwoorden op ruimtelijke vraagstukken van verschillende schaalniveaus en onze dynamische bureaustructuur werden opgemerkt door de juryleden. Met deze prijs wil Netwerk Architecten Vlaanderen architecten aanmoedigen die voortrekker zijn op het vlak van architectuur, een uitgekiende bedrijfsvoering en maatschappelijk engagement.
