The waters of the River Alness (River Averon), which runs through the village, are used to produce the Dalmore distillery single malt scotch whisky.

The distillery is owned and operated by Whyte and Mackay Ltd, which is owned by Philippines based Emperador Inc.

“The Dalmore” Distillery is located in Alness, 20 miles North of Inverness. It sits on the banks of the Cromarty Firth overlooking the Black Isle, the “big meadowland”, from which it takes its name.

The legend of The Dalmore dates back to 1263, when Colin of Kintail, Chief of the clan Mackenzie, saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging stag.

The high production capacity of the distillery has resulted in a variety of official bottlings from which whisky enthusiasts can choose. The distillery’s most typical bottling is the 12 year-old, although they also produce a 15 year-old, an 18 year-old, and older ones. Independent bottlings are very rare at the distillery, with Gordon & MacPhail being one of the very last independent bottlers to do so.

JAMstudio is an award winning RIAS chartered architectural practice based in Aberdeen. We are passionate about great design and its power to create amazing spaces, whether for a one off family home or for an inspirational workplace.
