A recently completed primary school project in Chelsea within a Listed Victorian building.
Park Walk School in Chelsea
The project was commissioned fortunately just prior to the education cuts and had a very supportive head teacher to ensure the project was completed relatively unscathed.
The project was part of a drive to ensure schools are fully accessible to all pupils under current DDA stipulations.
What makes this one special is, that together with the school’s support, we managed to introduce some striking finishes and a beautiful mural designed by Tim Webb Jenkins of LWJ design under the umbrella of ‘educational’ input.
The dramatic 13 meter high lobby was carved out of an existing stairwell and top-lit via a new roof-light. Two solid reinforced coloured resin bridges were designed to link the lifts to the main corridors on the upper levels – we believe this is the first time resin has been used for this kind of application.
The murals depict full size animals in the lobby and nocturnal animals within the lift shaft – viewed through the rear of the glass backed lift car.
The project has been enthusiastically received by all of the pupils and staff and is due to be open to the public as part of the ‘Open City’ scheme later this year.
