Rab Bennetts commented today: “We are delighted to see our scheme for New Street Square recognised by a Civic Trust Award. The development was always seen as a destination for mid-town – the area between the City and West End – but, despite being a very large group of buildings, the scheme also needed to respond sensitively to the lanes and courts of the Fleet Street Conservation Area. Land Securities and the City Corporation were quick to recognise that the public domain was at least as important as the buildings themselves and we greatly valued their support in creating a memorable development.”

A new public square forms the heart of Bennett Associates’ New Street Square development, with pedestrian routes radiating from each of its four corners. Cafés and shops adjacent to office entrances animate the street scene. Although the tallest element in the scheme is 18 storeys, varying building heights ensure that maximum sunlight penetrates the square.

The palette of stone, glass and steel is softened by the inclusion of an attractive growing green wall, providing interest and character to the scheme. This urban regeneration project brings a new vitality to this area, as well as providing a new public space which has already had considerable local economic impact.

New Street Square

A significant development in Midtown. The building at No.1 is designed by Robin Partington Architects: the scheme aims to deliver on many levels; as a landmark for London and as a world class office headquarters, whilst contributing to a wider plan for Midtown.

The area will benefit from the new Crossrail station at Farringdon and the Cross-London Thameslink upgrade programme providing rapid connections north, south, east and west.
