Dewsbury Road House Extension in Brent
Second Prize was awarded to Dewsbury Road in Brent, by O’Sullivan Skoufoglou Architects.
The design responds to the homeowner’s brief for more light, space and storage, without reducing the garden.
Internally, oak beams and ash furniture reference the owner’s roots – the two materials sacred in Irish mythology.
The winning projects will now be featured in a dedicated magazine and a three-month exhibition of London’s 120 best home extension projects. The free exhibition will be shown at NLA’s Galleries at The Building Centre, from 26 January to 20 April 2018.

The brief was to create a warm, comfortable home with modern touches. Although the house was in reasonable condition, the joinery and fittings throughout the house were dated, had been well used and looked tired.

The Cloud House is all about colour, fun and exuberance – it has a plunge pool on the roof. It’s a building with its roots more in post-modernism than in the white-walled subtlety of modernism.
