Cable Car in East London

In summer 2012, London got a much needed river crossing between the Royal Docks and the Greenwich peninsula, with the city’s first urban cable car.

The cable car is officially known as the ‘Emirates Air Line’ and created a new connection between north and south London as it travels between the new stations of Emirates Greenwich Peninsula and Emirates Royal Docks.

With a journey time of just five minutes, up to 2,500 people are able to use the Emirates Air Line per hour in each direction. The cable car should carry around two million passengers each year.
