International Design Competition for the Thematic Pavilion of the Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea

1. The Organizing Committee of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea has announced the International Competition for the Thematic Pavilion of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea.
2. “Registration to Participate” in Thematic Pavilion Design Competition is due on 15:00 (GMT+9) on Thursday, 28 May 2009.

The Organizing Committee has announced the International Competition for the Thematic Pavilion of Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea.

The Thematic Pavilion is an exhibition hall drawn up by the Organizing Committee to showcase the Expo’s theme, “The Living Ocean and Coast:” Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities.” It will be displaying creative and unique exhibitions to introduce the theme and leave the most vivid impression to visitors in the Exposition. And as a leading facility to realize the Blue Economy and the Blue Eco-polis, it will be used for public facilities of exhibition and research, and for making profits by operation after the exposition.

Particularly, the Thematic Pavilion should reflect the theme not only in the exhibition but also through the whole building itself for its location and its symbolic architectural presentation. So to act as the core attraction in this Korean expo event.

To host the most successful world Expo ever, the Organizing Committee, the promoter of the competition, sponsors the international competition to select a design scheme for the Thematic Pavilion that will bring the Expo to a refined event and increase the reputation of Korean architectural work.

For this purpose, the promoter sincerely invites world wide innovative architecture design corporations (legally registered), as individual or as a multi-disciplinary team led by an architect to take part in the architectural design competition.

The prospective participants can register themselves at the competition official website, http://www.yeosuexpo.org before 15:00 (GMT+9) on Thursday, 28 May 2009.

The entries submission should be received at the location specified by the promoter between 24 and 30 September 2009. The competition Jury will review all submissions and select six(6) entries and the 1st Prize winner will be awarded KRW 100,000,000 and commissioned to undertake the detailed design development and execution of the design. The Organizing Committee is announcing an open/invited, single-stage international architectural competition for the Thematic Pavilion of the Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea.

The Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea will be held from 12 May 2012 to 12 August 2012, under the theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities.” The ocean, the origin of life and breeding ground of living organisms of the Earth, is what we ought to preserve and treasure. Faced with threats such as social conflict, global warming, energy depletion and degradation of natural environment, we are on the threshold to seek practical solutions from the oceans. The theme will raise people’s awareness about the values of oceans and the critical environmental issues to suggest a new ocean vision for the future generation.

To host the most successful world Expo ever, the Organizing Committee has organized the international competition to call innovative designs for the Thematic Pavilion from all around the world. The Thematic Pavilion of the Expo 2012 Yeosu, one of the major facilities of the Expo, will be the centerpiece of the Expo site and it will acclaim the organizing committee’s efforts in realizing the theme of the Expo.
