Wanzare Bungalow in Pune
New Indian Residence and Interior in Maharashtra – design by Sunil Patil & Associates
13 Feb 2018
Architecture: Sunil Patil & Associates
Location: Pune, Maharashtra, western India
Located in Pune, this urban house belongs to a joint family with three generations living together. Like any other client the brief and requirements were significant. Hence on a plot of 373.90 sqm, we decided to go G +2. This lovely abode consists of 5 bedroom, kitchen, lobby, dinning, walkout into the garden from the dining and living and a courtyard. The exterior design is a geometric interplay of simple lines with sidings on wall and grey reflective glass used as part of the façade. The glass used on the second floor is UV proof that protects the interiors against radiation.
Planning has been kept simple. This contemporary design maximizes space ensuring privacy and provides ample opportunity to connect with the outdoors. The triple heighted courtyard that runs from ground to top with an atrium on it plays a vital role in giving light and ventilation and allowing interaction amongst all levels. The courtyard consists of composition of water body frangipani tree and pebble court. The courtyard creates a backdrop for the custom made mural created by an artist. The mural is made in brushed metal and rustic wood and is seen from almost all the rooms at all levels.
The stone cladded wall separates the living and the parent’s bed. Openings are given from the north side of the design allowing sufficient ventilation into the house. The use of white and beige color breaks the monotony of the wooden and ceramic flooring.
Ground floor consists of parent’s bed, entrance lobby dinning, kitchen, store room and a pooja room attached to the dinning. Porch has been designed to accommodate 2 cars. Pooja room has been designed with glass walls with water body outside giving a sacred ambience to the place. Hi tech kitchen with island is designed with a suspended decorative chimney over the table top. Surfaces is used as a material for the for the kitchen tops with bolted wooden stripes on it. The kitchen opens to the dinning. The living dinning and kitchen are designed to be interactive spaces hence the traditional kitchen gives way to open kitchen. Matt finish grey ceramic flooring is used in the kitchen
The Stairs besides the kitchen take you to the first floor. On the first floor there is a master bed, 1 children’s bed, home theater cum family lounge. Both the children’s bed and home theater cum family lounge share the courtyard and creates an interesting buffer space. The children’s bed is kept north facing so that defused light comes in throughout the year and Sky light is given allowing the play of light and shadow during different times of the day. Also raised deck has been given.
Unconventional design of hand rail to the staircase gives suspended effect to the staircase with steel cables from the ceiling taking you to the second floor. Second floor houses 2 bed rooms. Jacuzzi is provided in the spacious bathroom on the second floor attached to one of the master bedroom. In both master bed rooms- split level flooring is given.
