Hopewell Centre Hong Kong : Wan Chai Tower
20th Century Architecture – HK Skyscraper Development by WMKY Architects
Location: 183 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai / Central
Date built: 1980
Design: WMKY Ltd, Architects
Building Height: 216m high
Refreshing for Hong Kong skyscrapers this tower is circular and its main mass is quite attractive due to well-designed rhythmic fenestration.
Echoing James Bond movies it has a swimming pool at the top and a revolving restaurant!
It held the title of tallest Hong Kong skyscraper from 1980 until 1989. It lost the title to the Bank of China tower by architect I M Pei.
