St. Gerlach Pavilion and Manor Farm, Valkenburg aan de Geul

Château St. Gerlach is an estate near Maastricht, situated in the middle of the hilly Limburg countryside: a unique complex with a luxury hotel, restaurant and spa. Mecanoo architecten have designed an elegant pavilion which balances the historic buildings on the site.

The pavilion completes the ensemble of the Château (1661), the St. Gerlachus Church (1727), the Farmstead (1759) and the Manor Farm (1668). The estate is now clearly visible from the public road, and has gained new significance for the village of Houthem.

Generous cantilevered roof
The transparent, state-of-the-art pavilion has a cantilevered roof with a beautiful curve. From the pavilion, guests will have views over the château, the hills, the meadow and the manor farm. The materials used are inspired by the natural surrounding of Limburg: marlstone, bluestone and oak. The three large multifunctional meeting rooms can be used separately or combined, offering a unique location for a variety of meetings and events.

Manor farm
The manor farm, a national monument from 1668, has been renovated to house small meeting rooms as well as a café to have lunch or coffee. This new public function serves the local community. An intimate ‘village square’ between the pavilion and the manor farm can be used as an outdoor extension of the foyer.

St. Gerlach Paviljoen & Kasteelhoeve, Valkenburg aan de Geul

Château St. Gerlach is een buitenplaats van Maastricht midden in het Zuid-Limburgse heuvelland: een uniek landgoed met luxe hotel, restaurant en spa. Mecanoo architecten ontwierp een elegant paviljoen dat bemiddelt tussen de historische bebouwing op het landgoed.

Het ensemble van het Château (1730), de Sint Gerlachuskerk (1727), het Pachthof (1759) en Kasteelhoeve Broers (1668) wordt zo gecompleteerd. Het landgoed is nu duidelijk zichtbaar vanaf de openbare weg en heeft daarmee een nieuwe betekenis gekregen voor het dorp Houthem.

Genereus overstekend dak
Het transparante state-of-the-art paviljoen heeft een genereus overstekend dak met een prachtige zeeg. Vanuit het paviljoen heb je wisselende uitzichten op het château, de heuvel, de grasweide en de kasteelhoeve.

De materialen zijn geïnspireerd op het omliggende Limburgse land: mergel, hardsteen en eikenhout. De drie multifunctionele ruimtes kunnen zowel los als gecombineerd gebruikt worden en zich lenen voor een grote variëteit aan bijeenkomsten en evenementen.

Kasteelhoeve
De gerestaureerde kasteelhoeve, een rijksmonument uit 1668, biedt ruimte aan kleine vergaderzalen en een koffie- en lunchconcept, Burgemeester Quicx. De hoeve heeft op deze manier een nieuwe publieke functie voor de lokale gemeenschap gekregen. Tussen paviljoen en kasteelhoeve ligt een intiem ‘dorpsplein’ dat bij goed weer gebruikt kan worden als uitbreiding van de foyer.
