La Defense Almere : Offices “La Defense”

La Defense Almere
La Defense office complex is well integrated with the larger urban plan. Both its height and the entrances into the inner courtyards tie in with the larger site. The exterior façade reflects the larger urban condition, while the interior façades of the courtyards have been designed with the office tenants in mind.

OMA’s development of the plan show a central square that is fractured with non-retail buildings scattered to the west along the water’s edge. The diagrams look attractive but more importantly the spaces are human-scaled and varied.

This building was the first housing complex realized by MVRDV. The client, a large housing corporation, wanted 100 units for elderly people with a gallery-type circulation.

The Pearl Café on Westerstraat
Café de Parel was originally a typical Amsterdam ‘brown bar’ with an old-fashioned dark interior and low lighting. The traditional stained-glass windows and monumental tile tableaus create the perfect setting for the new Parel.
