The Kaiserslautern Stadium commemorates Germany’s 1954 World Cup-winning captain

Fritz-Walter-Stadion was a World Cup 2006 Stadium. The ground hosted four group matches and the round of 16 match between Italy and Australia (2-1).

Sportplatz Betzenberg – as this German football stadium building was originally known – opened on 13 May 1920.

In 1930, the wooden stand got destroyed in a heavy storm, which formed the prelude of a large redevelopment resulting in a new main stand and concrete terraces, according to www.stadiumguide.com.

Stadion Betzenberg got further expanded in 1953 and at that time could hold just over 30,000 spectators.

A new North Stand opened in 1994, and a new South Stand was completed in 1998.

Address: Fritz-Walter-Straße 1, 67663 Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, central western Germany
