The Hospital Architecture System Research Branch of Chinese Hospital Association has initiated a UK-China Green Hospital Design Summit to take place in London. The summit builds on a package of healthcare deals and memorandums of understanding to export British healthcare expertise, signed between China and the UK following Cameron’s visit in 2013 and the Green Hospital Architecture International Symposium on Sustainable Development held in Shanghai in 2014.

Supported by China Design Centre, UKTI, The Building Centre and MIC International Communications, the summit will bring 20 influential Chinese hospital leaders to the UK for an interactive discussion with UK healthcare specialists on sustainability, hospital design and development.

The event is in response to the recent increase in investment in healthcare in China, which is part of the Chinese governments Five Year Plan to build 3,000 new hospitals and update 26% of their existing hospitals. The design summit will include speakers from BDP, ARUP, Medical Architecture, Penoyre & Prasad, Healthcare UK, Shaw Healthcare, BRE Centre, Shanghai Health Capital Construction Administration Centre, Shanghai Institute of Architecture Design& Research, and Shanghai 9th people Hospital.

An exhibition showcasing exemplar case studies of sustainable healthcare design will be held at the China Design Centre Gallery from 19th May to the 30th May.
