Following last year’s inaugural success in London, World Architecture News will be hosting this year’s World Architecture Day – the annual celebration of architectural and design excellence. In partnership with the AIA NY the three-day event will take place at The Centre for Architecture in New York, from 6-8 October. Expect three exciting days of iconic building tours, presentations and workshops from the world’s most influential architects, designers and developers.
This year’s theme: Towards eight billion; Housing the next generation will explore a selection of the most innovative housing solutions from around the world; from rebuilding the slums in Mumbai, through building on water in the Netherlands, worker housing in China, community driven developments in Berlin, to social housing in France. Highly acclaimed and award-winning speakers will present their ideas and participate in a high-level day of presentations, discussions and networking.
World Architecture Day 2013: New York will bill a fusion of familiar names, from Richard Meier, Daniel Libeskind and Michael Graves, through firms such as Snøhetta, Grimshaw, Arup and Related Companies with rising stars from around the world.
The three day programme, set within the backdrop of Archtober, a month long celebration of architecture in New York, is for the city’s architects to embrace the international community by wrapping the big day with a before (past) day and an after (future) day.
Day 1 (06 October): Building tours
Manhattan building/Practice tours followed by a ‘Welcome to New York’ drinks reception.
Day 2 (07 October): Main conference
World leading architects, developers, engineers and city officials gather for a crucial summit challenged with examining a range of ground breaking initiatives that could provide a key to sustainably housing the world’s next billion people.
Day 3 (08 October): Workshops
10 x morning technology workshops in various locations around the city concluded with lunch in local restaurants selected by the host.
