Design: Kettle Collective
Location: Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, Dubai, UAE
Kettle Collective’s award winning Solar Innovation Centre
International architecture and design studio, Kettle Collective has won its first design award after practicing for just two years. Kettle Collective, registered in the Dubai Design District, was awarded Best Future Leisure and Tourism design at the 2014 Cityscape Awards for Emerging Markets for the Solar Innovation Centre.
The Solar Innovation Centre is a research and education facility, located in the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai and was commissioned by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
“We are very pleased that the Solar Innovation Centre has been recognised as a leading example of sustainable architecture in Dubai”, said Tony Kettle, Design Principal at Kettle Collective.
A model of the visitor centre has been selected for display at the Royal Scottish Academy Open Exhibition for Architecture, 2014 and will open to the public from November 2014 until January 2015 in Edinburgh.
Tony Kettle designed the building to reinforce a sense of place for green Dubai as a leading example of sustainable development both in the region and internationally. A beautiful organic form from the outside, The Solar Innovation Centre inspires curiosity and free thought through a stimulating free flowing multi level design. The building has a simple and economical structure based on the principles of ‘divine geometry’ seen in Islamic art.
