INSPIRATION:
The main inspiration was found in the idea to make an hommage to Istria-red soil and bright skies in coordinance with functional demands.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Villa is situated on the seashore of Materada, near Porec in Istria , Croatia, just a few steps from the beach. The client wanted a recognizable, residential house that satisfies functional and aesthetic demands, a visual imperativ of luxury and comfort. The house is designed as two floors hideaway, with a swerved upper floor, large cantilevered spaces that form covered outer spaces and focus the views towards the sea. Basic materials are corten, aluminium, wood and glass.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Villa Materada is envisioned as a summer holiday house but it is functional during the whole year. It can trasnform from fully enclosed volume to an opened, total space during the summer when inside and outside spaces become one.

The project started in January 2013. and finished in summer 2014., Materada, Istria, Croatia

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Realization technology was quite simple and there was no problems with the construction. Only issues where with the optimal construction of the 1st floor slab-grand cantilever.The facade metalwork consists of aluminum profiles. The facade is created so that it allows ventilation (corten panels on the ground floor and aluminum panels on the first floor). The straight roof of the ground floor is a walkable grovel covered area while the roof on the first floor has an angle of 19 degrees. All floors are wooden, inside and outside.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Research was focused on selection of materials and best construction options regarding the large cantilevered 1st floor.

CHALLENGE:
Main creative challenge was making the cantilevered 1st executable, financially justified and at the end completed as designed and envisioned.
