Upcycler’s Architecture Competition

#Flitched | The Upcycler’s Design Competition, east London, UK

Ash Sakula Architects introduces #Flitched; the design competition that challenges architects, designers, architectural technologists and ecologists to work with structural engineers to design a workshop garden at the Canning Town Caravanserai site, using an inventory of construction waste. Participating teams are invited to creatively repurpose the designated waste materials to make an inspiring sheltered outdoor workshop space.

In order to facilitate a stronger working relationship between the various disciplines, Buro Four hosted a #Flitched networking event on 10 Dec 2012, at 1 Naoroji Street, London WC1X 0GB. Architects & engineers networked with potential team members.

The winning project will be built in February 2013 and the winning team will be involved throughout.

There are also prizes for runners up and a #Flitched conference in March, hosted by The Building Centre, which will feature the winners and several shortlisted projects.

The competition organisers will be writing about the participants and helping them publish their work online and through social channels.

BD (Building Design Magazine), The Building Centre and Buro Four have all generously agreed to support this fantastic competition and promote ‘upcycled’ architecture. With a panel of judges reviewing each submission including Mark Whitby of Whitby Bird and RIBA president Angela Brady.
