Hammerson named RIBA Client of the Year 2010 supported by the Bloxham Charitable Trust
Hammerson have been named the 2010 RIBA Client of the Year supported by the Bloxham Charitable Trust.
The RIBA Client of the Year award honours the key role that a good client plays in the creation of fine architecture. They consider clients of the year’s RIBA Award-winning schemes but take into account a track record of previous successful commissioning, particularly where this has led to earlier RIBA Awards
The judges named Hammerson the 2010 Client of the Year for their commitment to supporting good architecture. Working with a mix of established and younger architects, they have produced commercial architecture of the highest quality. Inspiring design has resulted in inspiring projects, which include the Foreign Office’s striking net glazing at Leicester; artist Susanna Heron’s etched glass windows in Stanton Williams’s Bristol store, and the beautifully detailed oriel window shopfronts in Eric Parry’s Threadneedle Street project.
The announcement was made at the RIBA Stirling Prize 2010 Dinner on 2 October 2010, which took place at The Roundhouse, London. Tom Dyckhoff, architecture critic for The Times announced the winner, and the award was presented by Tom Bloxham MBE. The award is judged by Tom Bloxham MBE, and members of the RIBA’s Awards Group, which is chaired by Paul Monaghan, which includes both lay members as well as architects.
Speaking about Hammerson, Tom Bloxham MBE said:
“To get any good building made needs inventive architects, skilful builders and determined clients. This award celebrates clients who love architecture and who want to make their mark with some great buildings. The Bloxham Charitable Trust is pleased to support it.”
The other clients shortlisted for the award were:
– NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
– Aldeburgh Music
– Royal Parks
– The Victoria & Albert Museum
The judges named Hammerson the 2010 Client of the Year supported by the Bloxham Charitable Trust for their commitment to supporting good architecture.
Former Hammerson Director of Retail Development, Robin Dobson, also won a 2010 RIBA Award in his own right, for his house Hunsett Mill in Norfolk, which is designed by Acme. The client takes obvious pride in all these achievements; Hammerson has cemented a relationship with, and a respect for architecture.
The Bloxham Charitable Trust is a private trust set up by Tom Bloxham MBE to support charitable objectives.
