NETBALL DESIGNED FOR EVERYONE

BVN will design Queensland’s first State Netball Centre at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC), following an announcement by the Treasurer and Minister for Sport, Curtis Pitt MP, yesterday.

Noting that the new State Netball Centre would further QSAC’s reputation as a Centre of Sporting Excellence, Mr Pitt said:

“Netball is one of Queensland’s most popular sports. Demand for space is high and once completed we expect the State Netball Centre to be used by thousands of young netballers from clubs, schools and junior development programs, as well as seniors and representative players.”

BVN Principal, Mark Grimmer said it is exciting for BVN to be designing a significant new sporting facility for Queensland.

“We hope the result is one that the Queensland netball community will be proud to call home.”

He pointed out that Netball is a dynamic game for both the players and spectators and said, “Our design amplifies this excitement with an elevated level that will allow many more spectators to view the games creating a vibrant atmosphere.”

Additionally a plaza space created across to the Athletics facility will allow Netball Queensland to hold supplementary activities to the events they host.

Mr Grimmer noted that, “The sloping site, large clear spans for the courts and the need for a broad range of support facilities made this a challenging design process.“

BVN were appointed to the project following a design tender for the brand new eight court indoor facility, training centre and administration offices for Netball Queensland.

Design is expected to be completed in early 2016 with construction to commence by mid-year.
