The Museu Oscar Niemeyer was designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer as far back as 1967, but only inaugurated in 2002 and officially opened in 2003.
Due to its shape, the exhibition building is also referred to as the “Museu do Olho”. The “eye” can easily be seen from some distance.
The museum focuses on the visual arts, architecture and design. The official name is Novo Museu or New Museum.
The first building was designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1967.
