Bucharest Architecture Prize – Presented by David Kohn

British architect David Kohn will present the interior of the year 2013 in April, in Bucharest

At the fourth edition of GIS International Interior Architecture, Design and Lighting Expo Conference, which will take place on April 7-8, 2014, in Bucharest, the British architect David Kohn will present, as the special guest of the event, the interior of the year 2013.

David Kohn Architects’ refurbishment of an apartment on Carrer Avinyó in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, project presented in GIS 2014, has won World Interior of the Year at the Inside Festival in Singapore and is shortlisted for Icon Magazine’s Interior of the Year Award, World Interior News Interior of the Year and UK Interior Architect of the Year 2013. The main attraction of the appartment is the new mosaic floor decorated with a triangular pattern that matches the geometry of the plan.

The tile pattern is graded in colour from green at one end of the apartment to red at the other to differentiate the brothers’ private spaces. The encaustic tiles were manufactured by Mosaics Martí, suppliers of tiles to Antoni Gaudí. The project reflects the city of Barcelona and, according to the architect, it is a tribute to the city.

The practice has built a reputation for its design, winning RIBA, D&AD, Designs of the Year, New London and Condé Nast awards in 2012. In 2010 the practice was named “One-Off House Architect of the Year” and in 2009 “Young Architect of the Year”.

In GIS 2014, alongside David Kohn, highly-awarded architects and designers in international competitions will present the winning projects of the following categories: office, hotel, bar, pub, restaurant, spa, residential, sport, bathroom and more.
