Location: North Queensland, Australia

On a remote island off Far North Queensland, Australia, Tropical Beach House, a one bedroom beach house has a simple plan contained within just 100 square meters.

Exposed to the extremes of tropical elements the guiding principle was to incorporate glass against wind and rain and shutters in the heat and humidity.

The rooftop lantern allows for outward circulation of hot air, and ventilation when the house transforms when closed up for protection.

Materials are natural and where possible local. Low maintenance hardwood timbers and local granite wrap around the concrete base. Stone walls ground the structure in it’s native environment. The timber and stone will age and eventually blend in with the surrounding tropical landscape.

This new North Queensland house is designed for true indoor/outdoor living.
