Have you ever asked yourself, “What type of water pressure is in my house?” I bet you have! That was my case in the past when I was a first-timer.  I never did ask questions until I had a new tap, which gave me the problem of my life! Now I know the right thing to do whenever I wish to install a water pressure unit in any of my new buildings! I wouldn’t want to keep this experience to myself.

Before I go further, I wish you could take note of the following points. Don’t just install appliances in your house without asking questions! Make sure that the new installation matches the water pressure! That way, you’ll avoid cold bursts, loss of hot water pressure, low water supply, and sporadic burst!

Knowing the water pressure unit you have?

There’re three known water pressure units in the market. They are; the gravity-fed system, the unvented water pressure system, and the combi boiler water system.  Before choosing any of them, you have to understand their respective features before you could differentiate between them. Let’s know their features now!

The gravity-fed system

The gravity-fed systems are the type found in old properties. If your cold water container is in the roof space with a hot water tank elsewhere in the airing cupboard, you have the gravity-fed system.  It means that you have a low-pressure water unit. So, the taps and showers you should select are those that can function with low-water pressures.

However, if there’s sufficient height between the base of your cold water compartment and the shower or tap, get a high pressure at the outlet.

The gravity-fed pressure system limits your ability to choose a tap. But if you install a right water pump, the pressure will rise, allowing you to get different taps and greater shower experience!

The Combi boiler unit

This is the second water pressure system in the market. If the boiler in your home is mounted on the wall of your kitchen, or concealed in the cupboard, you have the combi boiler unit. There’s no hot or cold water storage compartment. This shows that you have a high pressure-vented system! You have the best-suited unit for your small apartments. It’s also unique for new buildings since it could deliver hot water any time you want it!

Combi’s are directly fed via cold water pressure mains. This unit heats and pumps the water all around the home near the mains pressure. These high-pressure units are suitable for the majority of showers and taps in the market. Therefore, you don’t need to check the water pressure in your house with this type of system put in place.

The Unvented system

This is the third system in the market. If you have your hot water container but nothing like a cold water container, it is the unvented water pressure unit. This system provides high pressure. Here water is in the mains pressure within a strength hot water compartment. In these sections, the water undergoes heating via immersion heaters hooked to the walls of the container or the middle heating boiler. This is in the airing cupboard. You have the opportunity of choosing from a variety of taps in this case because it is a high-pressure unit. You ought to check the water pressure of your system before buying fresh taps.

Now, what if you already have;

The gravity-fed system?

Calculating the precision on the water pressure will be your next move. You’ve already put into your home the cold water container with a hot water unit in different places. It‘s the low-pressure unit or the gravity-fed unit. You must calculate the precision to be sure that you are choosing the right taps for your home.

When it’s the “combi’ boiler?

First of all, remember that it’s the high pressure or high gravity pressure expelling unit. It’s highly compatible with a vast number of current showers and taps. Here, a precise water unit is not that vital. It’s flexible for modern equipment.

When it’s a high-pressure unvented unit?

Remember, it has hot water without a cold water chamber. The hot water unit is in the airing cupboard; it gets its heat via an adjacent immersion boiler or a detached heater. This type of device is an appropriate match for many taps and showers on sale! You’re lucky!

In everything remember that there’s a pressure expectation level

Take note that the typical expectation level of any water pressure unit is 1 to 2 bar! Pressure can change with time, depending on the type of boiler you have. So ensure to know the acceptable pressure level or the Guaranteed standard scheme (GSS). It’s the stipulated standard certified for water units! Calculate the water pressure by measuring the pipeline distance between the tank and that of the tap. The unit of measurement of pressure is in the bar, so 0.1bar is equal to 1.45 pa.

Wrapping up!

Not knowing the type of water pressure you have in your house could cause havoc!  You wouldn’t want hot water rushing down that tap when you are expecting a cold wash! So, get to work now.
