Wellington College Performing Arts Centre, Berkshire, England – Award
Studio Seilern Architects (SSA) is an A+Awards finalist – and you can help us become a winner!
Vote for the Wellington College Performing Arts Centre in the Unbuilt Institutional category in Architizer website vote.architizer.com before the polls close on March 30th.
The proposed 1,400 seat theatre provides a flexible facility.
Proposals include a new ‘floating drum’ auditorium building attached to the college’s existing theatre. The original block will be refurbished to include a ‘black box’ theatre, dance studio, recording studio, and music practice rooms.
The space between the existing building and the new 1,400-seat auditorium will become a ‘cultural living room’ looking out on to the surrounding forest and creating a public square.
The new building will be clad in charred timber, while the link building will be covered with a deep red-coloured resin.
Set next to the Christopher Lee Theatre and across from the Mandarin Centre, the new Theatre will be the first part of a newly conceived Arts Cultural Quarter, taking in the current Theatre and Old Gym.

A double frontage concept: There are two distinct frontages: the road-front and the water-front. Each influences the form making of the buildings. The placement and scale of the buildings will create the identity of each and how it relates to the wider context. The Residential meets the waterfront creating a vibrant space. Residential and waterfront merge together, having a dialogue with each other.

Gota Dam Residence, Zimbabwe, Africa
Gota Dam Residence
The site for the Gota Dam property lies in the Forrester estate, an agricultural farmland one hour north of Harare. The building is situated atop a granite rock overlooking the human-made Gota Dam. The area is, to say the least, breathtaking and awe-inspiring, and deserves a piece of architecture that renders homage to its setting and beauty.
