Atelier Kempe Thill in collaboration with BBZ landscape architects has recently won the invited international competition for the revitalization / development of Kappel Monastery near Zürich / Switzerland, a protected historical monumental complex that today serves as a seminar hotel and educational centre of the protestant church of Zürich.

Wintercircus Transformation
This architecture practice has won the invited international competition for the transformation of Wintercircus Mahy in Ghent. The building that served as a circus building until the early 20th century will be transformed into a meeting-point and hotspot for creation and innovation.

‘Ennobled Modernity’ – In 2006, Atelier Kempe Thill was commissioned to design Block 10 in the Moerwijk neighborhood of The Hague with eighty-eight apartments and twenty-seven terraced houses as the result of a negotiation procedure by Vestia, the largest building corporation in the Netherlands.

The Amsterdam-Bijlmermeer housing development, which was erected in the 1970s has been being overhauled since the mid-1990s due to a wide range of social and structural problems. In this case, urban renewal means, above all, radically demolishing large-scale, honeycombed housing blocks and replacing them with differentiated, smallscale block development and terraced housing.

The parliament – one of the smallest in Europe – officially represents the 74.000 inhabitants of the speech community located in the East of Belgium

The realized building consists of the simple stacking of two – diametrically opposed – concepts of space. The ground floor level is designed as a flat sandwich-space, which opens up completely to the surroundings thanks to the glazing on all sides. The public green with its dominated tree canopy becomes part of the interior and generously extends the small space to the outside.

The architect practice won the invited international competition for the transformation of Antwerp’s former 19th century concert hall “De Harmonie” into a “space of silence”. The building will be used as a non-religious contemplative centre for celebrations of important moments in life and individual reflection. The building will be carefully restored to bring back the historic glory of the house. Missing historical building parts and ornaments will be replaced by new elements in a contemporary interpretation.
