Adam Khan Architects major building – Brockholes Project, near Preston
RIBA Awards 2012 Citation:
The visitor centre at Brockholes is a cluster of buildings set in a lake on a floating pontoon, which responds to changing water levels in the flood plain. The architect has broken down what is a sizeable scheme into a simple and engaging village of buildings – restaurant, a shop, an exhibition hall, an education centre, and a conference centre – designed to celebrate the natural environment. Each cube or rectangle of accommodation has a barn-like roof creating an animated skyline floating above the lake.

The scheme is exemplary in its understanding of client needs, its engagement with users and the way in which a small new building entirely transforms its immediate environment.
2012 Civic Trust Awards – Shortlisted

King’s Square refurbishment, Gloucester, England
RIBA competition Finalist
with Land Use Consultants & General Public Agency
Kings Square Gloucester
Gloucester is renewing itself with a substantial programme of regeneration. An integral part of the wider scheme is the transformation of King’s Square, the city’s largest and most important public space. This will become the city’s main gathering and meeting place as well as the premier venue for outdoor entertainment. The promoters have high aspiration for a design that is creative and practical, respects the city’s historic context and at the same time creates a thrilling and distinctive contemporary sense of place. The competition seeks a multi-disciplinary design team to work closely with the promoters to design and deliver the project.
