Location: west of city centre, on the main pedestrian route out to the museum district

Metz & Co Amsterdam

Rietveld’s architectural contribution for this building was the circular glazed display room or pavilion using a lightweight steel structure; the cupola is fully glazed with a slender steel frame structure, and also the bold letters ‘Metz & Co’ on the roof.

This department store sold Rietveld furniture and originally involved the famous Dutch architect simply to produce the graphic design for the rooftop branding.

The renovated cupola was closed to the public in 2012 when a fashion chain purchased the building.
