US University Architecture Designs

We’ve selected what we feel are the key examples of American University Architecture Designs. We aim to include projects that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both.

We cover completed US university buildings, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across the United States of America. The focus is on contemporary American higher educational buildings but information on traditional buildings is also welcome.

We have 4 pages of American University Architecture Design selections with links to many individual project pages.

University of Florida Building
The CTRB is situated on a 2.57 acre site along Mowry Road and Gale Lemerand Drive in the city of Gainesville, Florida, USA. The building is sited to capitalize on the proximity to the Health Science Center of the University of Florida. The overall master plan for the project has been planned as two wings with a connecting hub on the east side. This central organizing element contains a two story glass-walled atrium-lobby with an open-air communicating stair, two multi-purpose rooms, and building service areas.

Westchester Community College Building
Located at the east entrance of the College’s Valhalla campus, the Gateway Center serves as both an initial expression of campus identity and a threshold to the College. The design unifies the building and the site to form a sustainable daylit environment. Bringing together the beauty of the campus landscape, references to the campus’ architectural legacy and state-of-the-art technology, the building creates a unique educational crossroads.

University of Iowa – a RIBA International Awards 2007 winner
The School of Art & Art History at the University of Iowa, which also opened in September 2006, is awarded for successfully negotiating its site at the crossing of two orthogonal paths in the campus, at a place where the city grid is interrupted by natural landscape in the form of a small lagoon and a limestone bluff. The jury writes “This engagement with the conditions of the elements of the site is one of the scheme’s most striking aspects. It feels like this would be a very good place in which to make and study art.”
