Website: Visit Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a port city in northeast Scotland. In the 1970s the city expanded after oil was discovered in the North Sea, and it became one of most prosperous cities in the UK. House prices varied more widely than typical British cities due to the price of oil. At various points in the last decades it had higher house prices than even the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

The city is located where the River Dee and River Don meet the North Sea. With an offshore petroleum industry, the city is home to an international population. It’s also known as the ‘Granite City’ – and sometimes the ‘Silver City’ – for its many enduring grey-stone buildings. The 19th-century Marischal College building is a key landmark, now occupied by the City Council’s offices.
