The office and hotel buildings are two distinct entities but are designed with a common palette of materials to form a unified composition. Granite makes a robust base, rooting the buildings in their setting. Then as the elevations rise up from the ground the stone gives way to curtain walling with an expressive glazing structure for the office and overlapping, rendered, ‘floating’ panels for the hotel.

Five-storey E&M building bought by C&L Properties to be 120-bed Aberdeen hotel with retail at street level. The proposal involves closing a lane leading from Netherkirkgate to Union Street would with a glazed section connecting the building’s two halves. C&L Properties is headed by property developer, Charlie Ferrari.

Facing onto St Andrew’s Street the 5-7 storey £5m hotel would also be bounded by George Street, Charlotte Street & John Street. Previously Detailed Planning consent was granted in Jun 2006 for 56 flats & two shops
